Prince William’s visit to Duchy College Stoke Climsland included a stop at a cozy English inn.

On Oct. 17, the Prince of Wales’ team posted a new photo of him along with a little background about the unannounced outing.

“Prince William popped into The Warren House Inn earlier, on beautiful Dartmoor. Legend has it the pub fire has been alight since it was built in 1845!” his team wrote on X with a flames emoji.

The shot showed Prince William, 42, standing and smiling before a glowing fireplace. Chalk menus behind him advertised the soup of the day (sweet potato and chili) and invited guests to “Try a glass of scrumpy” or take a bottle of the cider home.

The historic Warren House Inn is the highest inn in Southern England and offers all a warm welcome, its website says. According to the lore, its central fire has burned continuously since 1845 and the inn is owned by the Duchy of Cornwall.

Prince William became the Duke of Cornwall when King Charles acceded to the throne in 2022 and inherited its estate worth over $1 billion. The Duchy of Cornwall is a 700-year-old estate owned by the Prince of Wales and designed to provide income for the heir to the throne, his family and his charitable activities. The lucrative duchy spans 130,000 acres across 23 counties in England and Wales today, encompassing farmland, property and commercial businesses.

While it was unclear exactly when Prince William visited Warren House Inn during his day out, he likely popped by while traveling to or from Duchy College Stoke Climsland in Callington, Cornwall. The Prince of Wales — otherwise known as the Duke of Cornwall! — traveled to the agricultural college, which is also on duchy land, to hear about the school’s opportunities for young people in rural areas.

Though Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton support the crown as working royals, not all of their outings are announced in advance, and they’re known to explore the local area when they’re on the road. In May, it emerged that the Prince and Princess of Wales stayed at a charming Airbnb during an official visit to Wales in 2023, and the bed and breakfast said they were lovely guests.

“We were delighted to welcome William and Kate for a night here when they visited The Brecon Beacons,” the Duffryn Mawr Country House wrote in a post on Facebook, along with a shot from their stay. “So kind and friendly, it was a pleasure to have them stay here.”
