Beatrice and her grandmother Queen Elizabeth were known to be especially close, and the Queen even “saved” her own wedding tiara, the Queen Mary diamond fringe tiara, for Beatrice to wear when she got married.
“The Queen saved this grand tiara specifically for Beatrice. It was always reserved for her as they are exceptionally close,” a source told PEOPLE at the time of Beatrice’s 2020 wedding, describing it as “arguably the most sentimental [piece] lent from the Queen yet.”

Beatrice and Edo linked their daughters’ names in a sentimental way by naming their new baby Athena Elizabeth Rose, repeating the Elizabeth middle name to honor the Queen, who died in 2022.
“Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, born on Wednesday, 22nd January, at 12:57pm, at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Jan. 29, confirming Athena’s birth the previous week. “The baby was born weighing 4 pounds and 5 ounces.”
“Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of The Royal Family have all been informed and are delighted with the news,” the statement said.
The happy announcement was accompanied by the first photo of baby Athena, snuggled in a pink blanket in a photo credited to her father Edo.
