Buckingham Palace decides against King Charles, Donald Trump early meeting

Buckingham Palace shares major update on King Charles, Donald Trump meeting in Scotland

King Charles won’t be meeting Donald Trump during their overlapping visits to Scotland next week.

Though the two leaders were speculated to unofficially meet in Scotland before Trump’s state visit to the U.K., those plans have been scrapped. Per GB News, the main reason for shelving the meeting was “diary clashes” as Charles’ and Trump’s schedules will not allow for it.

Instead, both Buckingham Palace and the White House agreed to push the in-person encounter to the full State Visit set for September.

That visit, confirmed last week, will see Trump and First Lady Melania hosted at Windsor Castle from September 17 to 19.

“The President of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump, accompanied by the First Lady Mrs. Melania Trump, has accepted an invitation from His Majesty The King to pay a State Visit to the United Kingdom from 17 September to 19 September 2025,” the Palace recently announced.

It’ll mark a historic moment, making Trump the first modern-era U.S. leader to receive two UK state visits (he was last hosted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2019). But this one won’t follow tradition.

Trump won’t get a ceremonial carriage ride or stay at Buckingham Palace. And unlike French President Emmanuel Macron who visited the U.K. earlier this month, Trump won’t address Parliament. This is largely because Parliament will be in recession during the state visit.

The U.S. president is set to visit Turnberry and Aberdeen between July 25-29, where he will meet with Prince Minister Sir Keir Starmer and First Minister John Swinney.

Meanwhile, the British monarch will travel to the Scottish Highlands for the annual royal family retreat to Balmoral Castle, joined by Prince William and Princess Kate.
