Desperate Meghan Markles’s secret messages ahead of Kate Middleton’s comeback
With rumours swirling that Kate Middleton’s return to public life is imminent, sources say that Meghan Markle has been hoping to build bridges with her sister-in-law
She has been out of the spotlight for six months battling through her health issues, but insiders now say that Kate Middleton’s comeback to the spotlight is imminent.
As Closer went to press, it was unclear whether or not she would make an appearance at the annual Trooping the Colour, as she issued a public statement saying she was “very sorry” to be unable to make the rehearsal.
But whether or not she makes an appearance, a royal source told Closer at an event held in conjunction with the Princess of Wales’ foundation, “Kate’s return to public duty will be soon. She knows how much she has been missed and she is keen to get back to work whenever she can.”
Closer previously reported how Kate’s estranged brother-in-law Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have reached out to her to offer well wishes following the announcement of her cancer battle in March.
The Princess of Wales and her husband Prince William, are said to have “barely any contact” with Harry and Meghan, following their departure from the UK in 2020 and the subsequent disparaging bombshell claims they’ve made about the royal family.
But now a source tells Closer that Harry and Meghan – who reside in Montecito, California – have reached out to Kate ahead of her return to public life. We’re told, “Both Harry and Meghan have been following Kate’s recovery with huge interest, but sadly it’s had to be more from afar because their lines of communication with the palace and The Waleses, in particular, are very limited, to say the least. They have had enough information to know that people are excited about the idea of a comeback for Kate and they’re both relieved and happy to hear that she’s on the mend and may soon be well enough to return to her duties.
“They’ve jointly reached out to send well wishes, but they’re still not really in a place with Kate to warrant much of a response. That hasn’t stopped them from trying to connect and do what they see as the right thing. When Kate gets back into action, their hope is that it might take some of the heat off them and possibly trigger a truce with her and William, and with the King, too.”
Concerns about Kate’s wellbeing began in January when Kensington Palace issued a statement informing the public she had undergone planned abdominal surgery and was “unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter”.
She then blindsided the world in March when she announced, “Tests after the operation found cancer had been present”, and that she was in the early stages of chemotherapy treatment.
With rumours swirling that Kate Middleton’s return to public life is imminent, sources say that Meghan Markle has been hoping to build bridges with her sister-in-law.
The Waleses have been embroiled in a widely reported feud with Harry and Meghan after the Duke detailed moments of disagreement between Kate and Meghan in his controversial memoir, Spare.
It became clear there is still bad blood between the Sussexes and the rest of the Royal Family when neither King Charles or William made time to see Harry when he visited the UK last month, with a spokesperson confirming the King – who is also receiving treatment for cancer – had a “full programme” and couldn’t fit his son into his busy schedule.
But, according to our source, Meghan – who recently unveiled her new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard – believes now is the right time to mend the fractures in their relationship.
“Meghan’s desperate to come across as the bigger person and end this feud between them – appearing like some sort of royal saviour could only do her image good. And, despite all their bad blood, her heart does go out to Kate – she can only imagine how hard this situation must be for her. Meghan has made it clear she’d love nothing more than to move past all the nonsense and find a way towards healing for everyone’s sake. She’s ready and willing to let the anger and bitterness go.
“Of course, it’s not really up to her and Harry, all they can do is continue to reach out and offer olive branches. Meghan hopes her feelings are being communicated to Kate through their mutual friends. There’s no doubt making peace with William and Kate would be a huge relief for Meghan on many levels, not least because it would also improve her reputation and, in turn, the new brand she’s cultivating.”
Since quitting royal life, Meghan and Harry signed a multi-million pound deal with audio platform Spotify, which came to an end last year after just one series of Meghan’s podcast, Archetypes. They also struck up a deal with Netflix, with two documentaries having been released and reports of another in the works.
Earlier this year, Meghan launched her lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard. It’s first product was strawberry jam, jars of which she sent out to 50 friends. While A-list pals such as Melissa McCarthy and Mindy Kaling promoted the item, other reported recipients, including former pal Oprah Winfrey and Gwyneth Paltrow, stayed silent on social media.
And with the Duchess’ popularity reportedly now plummeting in the US as well as the UK, the source adds that Meghan is hoping that a reconciliation with Kate could help boost her image.
The insider says, “Meghan would love to be accepted by the British public again and getting the seal of approval from Kate and William would go a long way towards that. It’s got to be pretty nerve-wracking for Meghan, so much is riding on making amends with Kate and William and no matter what she and Harry do, ultimately they have very little control over the outcome, all they can do is continue to reach out, and hope for the best.”
