How Prince Harry’s sarcastic comments led to a rift with Princess Kate?
The Princess of Wales was said to have once been extremely close to her brother-in-law Prince Harry before his royal rift erupted - and according one expert believes their bond was ruined after Harry broke a major rule
Prince Harry’s once close bond with the Princess of Wales was runied after he broke a major royal rule, an expert has claimed.
Kate was once seen as the peacemaker who many thought would be able to help Harry and his estranged older brother Prince William bury the hatchet. But in his memoir Spare, which was released almost two years ago, Harry dished on his sister-in-law. In the book and in several interviews to promote it, he accuses Kate of “stereotyping” his wife Meghan Markle, saying her behaviour created a barrier and shared details of a row over bridesmaids’ dresses at the time of his wedding, which left Meghan in tears.
He also writes how Kate asked for an apology from Meghan when she accused her of having “baby brain” following the birth of Prince Louis and that Kate “grimaced” when Meghan borrowed her lipgloss.
And acccording to royal expert and author Katie Nicholl, this led to a complete breakdown of Kate and Harry’s relationship as the princess is “very disappointed”. She previously told The Sun : “When you think of the personal revelations, and I think you can call them snide remarks made about Kate in Spare, Harry broke the one rule and that is staying silent on family matters.
“While Kate and Harry used to be very, very close, there’s been a complete breakdown of that relationship. I don’t think Kate does angry. I think it is more a case of feeling very disappointed, very let down and feeling hurt knowing that she had no right of reply – and Harry knew full well she had no right of reply.
“I do know that William was very angry that Harry had drawn Kate into it when he felt Kate was blameless throughout. She acted very much as the peacekeeper, she tried to get the brothers back on an even keel and for Kate to be dragged into this mucky saga was upsetting for her and certainly did infuriate William.”
Harry’s rift with his older brother William has so far showed no signs of thawing as last months, when they both attended a memorial service for their late uncle Lord Robert Fellowes, they reportedly did not speak and avoided each other.
Earlier this month as Harry’s 40th birthday approached, his bitter feud with his father King Charles and William left a huge question mark hanging over whether they would send public birthday wishes. However, when the big day arrived, the royals’ social media accounts both sent on their best wishes.
However, when the day arrived, and for the first time in three years, the Royal Family account shared a post on X that said simply: “Wishing The Duke of Sussex a very happy 40th birthday today!” The message was also accompanied by a picture of a smiling Harry and an emoji of a birthday cake. The post was then shared by the Prince and Princess of Wales account with a short message.
