King Charles continued with an important royal tradition which also marked the first step towards finally granting Prince William and Kate Middleton their much-anticipated honours.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were set to receive the authority to grant royal warrants – an honour reserved for monarchy s in the royal family – but in unexpected turn of events that was put on hold.

Royal warrants are granted as a mark of recognition to people or companies who have regularly supplied goods or services to the royal household.

On Wednesday, it was revealed that Charles had granted a royal warrant to Northamptonshire-based shoemaker, Gaziano and Girling – which made the shoes the King wore at his Coronation in 2023.

Charles made an official visit to the firm’s factory based in Kettering in 2019.

The update comes after it was revealed why the King had not authorised centuries-old tradition to grant royal warrants to William and Kate.

According to royal author Robert Jobson there is “always a bit of a delay” in the process. He noted that the Palace wants King Charles and Queen Camilla to manage their own royal warrants first which has “taken some time”.

He explained that the process is long a they have to “go through all sorts of stringent tests”.

Jobson added that while the future king and queen will eventually get their honours, they would first have to get through the challenge to wait patiently until it’s their turn.
