King Charles upholds Canadian sovereignty, says ‘No’ to external influence

King Charles III’s symbolic gesture to ‘strong and free’ Canada receives praise
King Charles III has sent a powerful message to US President Donald Trump with his speech from the throne, backing Canadian sovereignty.
The 76-year-old’s symbolic gesture to ‘strong and free’ Canada received praise from its people amid the ongoing tension over Trump’s comments that Canada should become the 51st State of the United States of America.
The speech, written by the Government, appeared to reject Trump’s suggestion, with the British monarch stating: “Many Canadians are feeling anxious and worried about the drastically changing world around them.
The King, from the throne, set out his government’s legislative agenda, stating: “Canadians can give themselves far more than any foreign power on any continent can take away.”
Charles, Prince Harry’s father and Canada’s head of state, rejected Trump’s suggestion and external influence, supporting national sovereignty. His words appear to be a direct nod to anyone questioning Canada’s independence.
However, the King’s reference to America in his historic address was carefully worded as he highlighted unity over division.
“The Prime Minister and the President of the United States, for example, have begun defining a new economic and security relationship between Canada and the US, rooted in mutual respect and founded on common interests,” The Kin said said.
The monarch formally opening the 45th session of Canada’s Parliament on Tuesday. The 24-hour visit was full of pomp and pageantry, complete with a guard of honour from the 3rd Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment, and a 21-gun salute.
Crowds braved the elements in the sizling sunshine for a fleeting chance to shake the King’s hands.
Reacting to the King’s visit, Canada’s Prime Minister= Mark Carney said: “It was a very successful visit. A good reminder of the strength of Canadian institutions.”
