Meghan Markle’s dad, Thomas, moving to the other side of world to escape ‘awful drama’: ‘Ready for a change’

Meghan Markle’s estranged father, Thomas Markle, said he’s relocating to the other side of the world in an effort to escape the “awful drama” he’s been wrapped up in relating to his daughter.
The retired TV lighting director, 80, who lives in a cliffside property near the US border in Rosarito, Mexico, said he’s looking to make the move overseas in a desperate bid to have a “fresh start.”
What’s more, Thomas has already started disposing of unwanted items ahead of the move.
“I am ready for a change,” he told the Daily Mail. “I have felt stuck in a rut for some time and I am ready to meet new people and experience kindness.”
He added that while he hasn’t decided on a final location, Southeast Asia appeals to him as a “place of culture and beauty.”
Thomas added that after deciding not to renew his lease on his home, he hopes that his son, Thomas Jr., 58, will make the move with him.
He added that he wants to live in a more “peaceful” environment to avoid the “awful drama of recent years.”
While he didn’t expand on the drama that left him wanting a change, it’s no secret that his relationship with the Duchess of Sussex became strained in 2018 shortly before her wedding to Prince Harry, and has only continued to sour after he suffered a stroke in 2022.
He has yet to meet his grandchildren, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3.
And while he’s been continuously expressing interest in meeting his two grandchildren, his pleas have been met with silence from the Sussex camp.
After facing a slew of health woes in recent years, he even made a “deathbed plea” to his estranged daughter in April 2023.
“I’ve never been one for birthdays, but I know the one person I most want to hear from, Meghan, won’t be in touch,” he told the Daily Mail before his 80th birthday in July. “I would love to meet my grandchildren, but I would be happy with a photograph at this stage.
“They have two grandpas who want to see them, one of whom is the King of England,” he said. “I never in my 80 years thought I’d be in the same boat as the king.”
He also took a dig at Harry, asking why he’s never made an effort to meet him despite having “the resources to fly around the world.”
