The Prince and Princess of Wales’ oldest child turns 12 years old next week
As Prince George turns 12 years old next week, his parents Prince William and Princess Kate gave royal fans a sweet throwback to their oldest child’s first ever birthday.
On July 18, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared an Instagram clip to support a wildlife campaign close to both their hearts. They marked the launch of the Big Butterfly Count, a U.K.-wide effort encouraging people to track butterflies and support environmental health.
While the serene video didn’t feature any cameos from the royals, it stirred memories of Prince George’s first birthday back on July 22, 2014 when the then-first-time parents took their son to a butterfly exhibit at the Natural History Museum.
The outing produced some of the most memorable family photos from George’s early years, including a snap of him reaching for a butterfly on his father’s hand while perched on Princess Catherine’s lap.
At the time, photographer John Stillwell, who captured the sweet family moment, told People magazine that George was “fascinated to see them fly but a little scared when they got a bit close to him,” adding that the royals were “very proud parents” and “very relaxed” during the shoot.
George is now older brother to Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7.
