Prince William’s touching gesture to George as young royal appears ‘awkward’ at ceremony
Body language expert Nick Davies has pointed out the fatherly gesture from Prince William and eldest son Prince George appeared uncomfortable at a ceremony for the late-Prince Phillip
The second-in-line to the throne was spotted looking “awkward” during a ceremony back in 2022, whilst a body language expert has claimed dad Prince William appeared to make a touching gesture of comfort. The family were at a memorial for the Duke of Edinburgh at Westminster Abbey in March 2022 to commemorate Prince Phillip.
As it came to a close, royals mingled with other attendees in scenes in which George, then aged eight, look uncomfortable. The young royal was there with sister, Princess Charlotte, at the time, while Louis did not attend. Body language expert Nick Davies pointed out the moment, as Prince William chatted with a member of the military. George was seen “clutching his hand” when he previously entered the Abbey looking confident.

The expert told the Daily Star: “George appears more confident looking forward, staffing upright[…] Until he entered the Church doors when he takes a deep breath quickly, gulps and licks his dry lips which is caused by pre-emptive anxiety, but he maintains good eye contact and once he is spoken to by one of the clergymen he breaks into a broad smile showing his confidence
“However, once his father talks to the Navy gentlemen with the gold braiding, George’s mouth tightens to the left and he rubs the bottom of his jacket with his right fingers, showing he feels awkward and is seeking comfort. William naturally recognises this putting his hand on George’s shoulder.” However, George may have overcome his nerves since the occasion, taking centre stage ast year in his grandfather’s Coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey.
George walked behind the King as a Page of Honour, alongside Nicholas Barclay, Ralph Tollemache and Lord Oliver Cholmondeley. But he didn’t reprise his role for the King’s first State Opening of Parliament Speech last November as it is believed the young royal missed the event to study for his school exams.
