Queen Camilla is set to take centre stage in surprising appearance as a new role is revealed in major announcement.

King Charles’s wife, who is an avid reader herself, is “thrilled” to take the lead in her favourite author’s latest murder mystery, The Hawk Is Dead: A Killer In The Palace.

The drama series, which is an adaptation of the crime thriller written by author Peter James, will see Camilla take a starring role in the plot as it involves a crime scene at Buckingham Palace.

Daily Mail’s royal editor, Rebecca English, revealed, “Fortunately, no one is likely to be more thrilled to find themselves taking a leading role in their own royal whodunnit than Her Majesty.”

It is uncertain if King Charles, who is also featured in the original book, will make an appearance alongside his wife.

The Queen herself had suggested the author, with whom she forged a friendship in the past 10 years, to set up the scene at the Palace.

Starring John Simm as the eponymous detective superintendent in the ITV drama series Grace, the scene will open with “a cinematic derailment of the Royal Train.

It will then lead Roy Grace deep into “the heart of Buckingham Palace, where he is called upon to solve a murder and what looks to be a royal assassination attempt.”
