King Charles shares years-long regret as William receives beloved heirloom

Prince William reduces King Charles ‘in tears’ as he takes over major role
King Charles, who was the Prince of Wales for 64 years before his ascended to the throne, made a surprising remark about his private estate.
Following his ascension, Charles has passed down his Duchy of Cornwall along with the title, Duke of Cornwall, to his eldest son, Prince William. Meanwhile, the King took over the Duchy of Lancaster.
However, the Cornwall holds a special place for Charles as he spent decades modernising and expanding the it to ensure it remained sustainable for future generations.
During a chat in 2021 with Simon Armitage on BBC Radio 4, Charles, when he was the Prince of Wales, spoke about his Welsh base, Llwynywermod estate.
Charles wanted to have a base in Wales but it took him a long time to finally purchase the property. Although, he expressed that he could have gotten it sooner.
“I now, at last, have somewhere in Wales to base myself, from time to time,” he said at the time. “Rather 40 years too late, probably. But it’s been a wonderful opportunity, at last, to have somewhere in Wales. I come whenever I can… I’ve always felt that it’s an important part of holding this particular title.”
Charles explained the process of finding the right place was “difficult” and it took him years to finally get it.
“I used to go to different other houses which was very kind of people to lend them for a week or something, but it wasn’t the same thing obviously until finally we found this, which has been a Godsend really.”
Although, only a year later, Charles became king and he passed down the estate and the Llwynywermod farmhouse to William.
However, Charles appears to be satisfied with his choice as William’s words once comforted him about the future of his former duchy.
William shared back in 2019 that he had “started to think about how [he] will inherit the Duchy one day and what [he] will do with it. I think it’s really important, the family angle, I really do.”
After hearing his son’s views, Charles admitted that he “couldn’t believe it” and was “reduced to tears”.
He said, “I was deeply touched and moved by what [William] said. Frankly, it reduced me to tears…Because, I suddenly thought, well, just hearing that from him has made the last 50 years worthwhile.”
