Royal aides unveil real reason late Queen rejected Prince Harry, Meghan Markle demands before royal exit
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their senior royal positions in 2020 after an important meeting with the late Queen Elizabeth.
Before the decision was formally announced, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had presented some demands to the royal matriarch. However, she firmly rejected the idea as she had major concerns about how things would pan out in the future.
The couple reportedly wanted to have a “half-in and half-out” role in the Royal Household which would allow them to be financially independent but also support the monarchy.
The late Queen, who reigned over 70 years, believed that Harry and Meghan’s “progressive new role in the institution” would not end well.
Royal aides, cited by Daily Mail’s Rebecca English, shared that in order to earn money, the Sussexes might have to endorse certain products, which would be inappropriate if they were also representing the Royal Family on a professional level.
Now, Meghan has launched her own lifestyle brand, As Ever, and released her Netflix show and podcast with Lemonada as she continues to expand her business ventures.
An insider told the outlet, “Her Late Majesty was nobody’s fool and knew that the chances were, it would all end in disaster.”
Hence, Elizabeth refused did not allow them to carry on working for the Crown after they had settled in America. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex left behind their royal patronages and were relieved from the public funds. Moreover, while they still have ‘HRH’ titles, the couple are not allowed to use them.
The update comes just a week after Meghan shared a video her and Harry before their daughter Lilibet – a name the couple chose as a tribute to the late Queen – sparked mixed reactions.
In the video footage, the couple is seen twerking in the labour room as Meghan is about to give birth to Lilibet. Many royal commentators and fans dubbed that the video as “cringe” and “inappropriate” especially since the couple have spoken so much about maintaining their privacy.
