Snoop Dogg is looking back fondly on his relationship with the late Queen Elizabeth.

During an appearance on the U.K. radio station Capital FM with DJ Jordan North on July 23, the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” rapper reflected on his experiences with the British monarch, affectionately referring to her as “my girl” and “a fan” of his music.

When North asked the star what his plans were while he was in the U.K., Snoop shared, “I’ll go by the palace, see if they let me in,” referring to Buckingham Palace.

“Well, I’ve heard the future king, [Prince] William, is a huge Snoop fan,” North said, to which Snoop replied, “Well, the Queen was a fan too. Rest in peace to the Queen, that was my girl. You know what I’m saying?”

“So, just may want to go up and, you know, see what you do,” Snoop added.

This isn’t the first time that Snoop has touched on his past relationship with Queen Elizabeth, as he previously told DJ Whoo Kid that she came to his rescue when there was a push to ban him from the U.K. in 1994.

At the time, Snoop was facing first and second-degree murder charges, and as a result, certain parties in the U.K. wanted to keep him from visiting and performing in the country. According to the rapper, the history-making monarch put those issues to rest.

“Guess who came to my defense? Just take a guess,” he said during the interview. “The Queen. The Queen said, ‘This man has done nothing in our country. He can come.’ “

Snoop continued, “The Queen…bow down…when the Queen speaks, bow down. That’s [Prince] Harry and William’s grandmother, you dig?”

He also speculated that Prince Harry and Prince William were the ones who told the Queen to support him, noting, “You think they weren’t there, saying, ‘Grandma, please let him in, grandma. He’s OK. We love his music.’

The rapper then pretended to be Queen Elizabeth and replied to himself, ” ‘You know Harry, I’ll let him in for you. He’s not so bad after all and he’s quite cute,” before adding, “The Queen, that’s my gal.”

That supposed fondness even further manifested in Snoop writing and releasing a song in honor of Prince William’s bachelor party in 2010, titled “Wet.”

“When I heard the royal family wanted to have me perform in celebration of Prince William’s marriage, I knew I had to give them a little something. ‘Wet’ is the perfect anthem for Prince William or any playa to get the club smoking,” the star said at the time, per Rolling Stone.

Snoop’s conversation with Capital FM came just ahead of his appearance at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, in which he carried the opening torch and has since served as an NBC correspondent covering the games.
