Senior members of the Royal Family have been seen leaving Balmoral today after they gathered for their annual family meet up, just hours after news broke on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s move to the UK. Prince William and Princess Catherine left the Scottish estate in a car this morning, followed by security vehicles as well as James, the Earl of Wessex, Prince Edward, Mike Tindall and Zara, and Princess Anne.

The Prince and Princess of Wales left first and were pictured in the front car, before the rest of the royals were seen driving behind them. The annual gathering in the Scottish Highlands began on Thursday, just as news broke about the Duke and Duchess’s bombshell return to Britain later this month.

The King and Prince William were already together at Balmoral when they were informed on Sunday.

And while the monarch is understood to welcome the opportunity to see more of the family both in a private and personal capacity, the same cannot be said for the heir.

William – the future king – is estranged from his brother after Harry levelled a barrage of accusations against the prince, Kate, the King and Queen Camilla in the years since the Megxit crisis of 2020.

Neither Buckingham Palace nor Kensington Palace have issued any statement about the latest developments.

The move is also likely to spark debate about how the British public will react to the U-turn, given the criticism the Sussexes have levelled at the Royal Family and the monarchy.

A new YouGov poll, carried out the day after the surprise U-turn, showed 33% believe the King’s youngest son and the former Suits star should not come back, while 45% do not know.

Fewer than a quarter (21%) were in favour of the Sussexes relocating from the US.
