BBC EastEnders April Fool sees soap’s stars fall for prank on Honey Mitchell’s twin sister

EastEnders staged a bizarre April Fool on Monday involving much loved character Honey having a twin sister

Two EastEnders stars actually fell for the soap’s April Fool on Monday, as the prank involving Emma Barton’s much loved character Honey Mitchell, having a twin sister was quickly rumbled as fans clocked the ‘new’ character’s name.

Honey has certainly had her fair share of drama over the last two decades, having made her debut in the BBC soap in 2005 and on Easter Monday, which also just happened to be April Fools Day, Emma’s Albert Square alias was at the centre of a stunt, which quickly caused a real stir on social media. The fool, which was posted on EastEnders’ official Facebook, X and Instagram accounts declared that Honey would soon be joined in Walford by twin sister Jo King.

Under the headline ‘Double Trouble,’ the post read: “The Square is set for the arrival of a new but very familiar face this summer. Honey’s long-lost twin, Jo King, arrives in Walford as a complete surprise to all the Mitchells. Played by Jemima Barton (Emma Barton’s real-life twin sister), Jo is set to ruffle some feathers and turn Honey’s world upside down.

The mock press release even contained quotes from Emma herself, who commented: “I can’t believe that I’m going to get to come to work every day and see my sister, E20 won’t know what’s hit them!” however it was the name of Honey’s apparent twin sibling – Jo King – that fans were quick to call out, having been immediately suspicious that the announcement was in fact an April Fool.

One person who claimed to fall for it was EastEnders star Jacqueline Jossa, who headed to the comments of the Insta post to reply: “But how did I fall for this” and her former on screen love interest, Peter Beale actor Thomas Law also held his hands up to admit to being taken in, as he wrote: “I’m an idiot, I just fully fell for this”

Like Jacqueline and Thomas, fans also fell for the prank, with one reacting: “Honestly this is one of the best April Fools ever. I believed it till I read the comments!” and another replied: “Hook, line and sinker.”
