One Kaley Cuoco Mistake Almost Cost The Big Bang Theory Its Entire Fanbase
You will never believe what truly made people fuming.
It’s no secret that only half of a show’s success depends on the writing. The rest of the responsibility rests on the shoulders of the cast to play the roles they are given, promote the show, and represent the brand it creates in the best possible way. One mistake can be ruinous not only for the actor, but for the entire project.
However, it is often the case that audiences become too harsh or entitled to the actors and come after them for the most minor inconveniences. The Big Bang Theory fans who tried to cancel Kaley Cuoco because of her hair change must be one of the worst examples.
Why Did Kaley Cuoco Cut Her Hair?
While some people speculated that the actress had some personal struggles or was preparing to jump into the new role, Cuoco dismissed all the rumors in The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series by Jessica Radloff. The star simply longed for a change, and the hair was the easiest way to bring it on.
Her decision, however, was not universally popular. Of course, every single viewer had to have an opinion about her haircut, and The Big Bang Theory creator, Chuck Lorre, was on her side this time.
“The audience had become infatuated with the character, and not just the character’s behavior and flaws and strengths, but in how the character looked. They became iconic, and to disregard that audience attachment was a mistake. And I witnessed it first-hand,” he said.
While it’s understandable why the actress’s choice wasn’t taken lightly, the blame can’t be placed solely on her shoulders. If everyone thought the hair was so important to Penny’s character, the costume and makeup department could have come up with a wig for her to wear.
Either way, in retrospect, this change seems extremely minor. Of course, some of the audience seemed to have an overly strong attachment to Penny’s golden locks, but even they had to get over it and keep watching. So The Big Bang Theory has successfully survived the blow.
