Royal Expert Says Prince Harry Is in a “Painful Place” Due to Writing About Kate Middleton in ‘Spare’
Prince Harry did not hold back about the royal family in his 2023 bombshell-filled memoir Spare, and—in addition to going in on his brother Prince William (whom Harry alleges physically attacked him during an argument)—even had some things to say about Kate Middleton.
Fast-forward to now, and the Duke of Sussex is said to be in a “painful place” amid Kate’s recent cancer diagnosis.
“When you do discover that your sister-in-law has cancer and you’ve written stuff that can’t be retracted, that’s quite a painful place to be in,” royal expert Tessa Dunlop tells Us Weekly. “I’m not saying it isn’t.”
“Can Harry and Meghan really hold themselves off as the caring example now? They’re certainly going to have to be careful of their timing with any releases so that it doesn’t look opportunistic,” Dunlop adds.
A source previously spoke to Us Weekly about how the Princess of Wales felt about being included in Spare and noted she “feels that Harry’s actions are atrocious. She is appalled at him for dragging her name through the dirt and is finding it hard to forgive.”
Understandably, the couples haven’t been close since, but Harry and Meghan *did* release a statement of support for Kate after her video announcement, which read the following: “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace.”
The Sussexes may also be poised to visit William and Kate when Harry (potentially with Meghan?!) returns to England in May for the 10-year anniversary of the Invictus Games.
